Courier peak surcharges for 2026, carrier by carrier

DPD adds 30p a parcel, UPS 48p on every home delivery, Evri 10p on labels bought through Amazon. Some carriers publish their peak charge and some only tell account holders. Here is what each one says on its own pages, and what it leaves out.

A bar chart of the 2026 peak surcharge on one UK parcel by carrier: Evri 10p on Amazon labels, Royal Mail 48 15p, Royal Mail 24 22p, Parcelforce 25p, DPD 30p and UPS 48p to a home address.

Every carrier puts something extra on a parcel between November and January. What differs is how much, for how long, and whether they tell you before the invoice arrives. This page puts the 2026 figures side by side for the carriers a small UK seller is most likely to use: DPD, UPS, Evri, InPost (which now runs Yodel), DHL and FedEx.

Royal Mail and Parcelforce have their own page, because Royal Mail publishes a full table by product: every Royal Mail and Parcelforce surcharge for 2026. Their headline numbers are in the table below so you can compare.

Everything here was read on each carrier’s own website, help pages or rate documents on 23 October 2026, with a link to the page that says it. Where a carrier does not publish a figure, we say so rather than guess.

The short version: DPD’s peak charge is 30p a parcel, but DPD does not publish the dates. UPS charges a £0.48 “Surge Emergency Fee” on every UK home delivery from 20 September 2026 to 6 February 2027. Evri publishes nothing on its own site; Amazon’s Evri rate card lists 10p a parcel in November and December. Royal Mail is 15p to 22p on a parcel from 2 November to 10 January. On most accounts the fuel surcharge, at 16 to 35 per cent, costs far more than any of these.

The 2026 peak surcharges, side by side

Account prices, before VAT. “Not published” means we read the carrier’s surcharge, fuel and help pages and did not find it; the charge may still appear on an account invoice.

DPD peak surcharge 2026

DPD lists its peak charges on its surcharges page, headed “Rate as of October 2026”: a Peak Charge of 30p, 75p on DPD Classic and Republic of Ireland parcels, £1.50 on DPD Direct, Air Classic and Air Express, and 20p on DPD Lite. DPD Local’s own page lists the same 30p.

What the page does not say is when the charge starts and ends, or whether it applies to parcels sent through DPD Pickup shops without an account. If you have a DPD account, ask your account manager for the dates in writing before you set your Christmas prices.

The bigger DPD number is fuel. DPD’s fuel and energy surcharge is 18.7 per cent, effective 16 March 2026, and 26.25 per cent on Classic, Offshore and Republic of Ireland services. On a £4.00 delivery charge, 18.7 per cent is 75p, two and a half times the peak charge, and it runs all year.

UPS: a “Surge Emergency Fee” that started in September

UPS does not call it a peak surcharge, and it is longer than anyone else’s. Its Surge Emergency Fee notice took effect on 20 September 2026 and stays until 6 February 2027. For UK domestic Standard, Express, Express Saver and Express Plus shipments delivered to a residential address, it is €0.55 a package, shown as £0.48.

Two details matter for a small seller. It is aimed at home deliveries, which is most of what an online shop sends. And UPS applies its fuel surcharge on top of the fee itself. That fuel surcharge changes every week; on UPS’s fuel page it is 35.00 per cent on Standard for the week from 26 October 2026, up from 33.25 per cent the week before.

Evri peak surcharge 2026

Evri does not publish a 2026 peak surcharge on its own website. Its consumer prices include fuel, and its business surcharges are set out in account terms rather than on a public page. We looked on 23 October and found no 2026 figure from Evri itself.

The clearest published number comes from Amazon. Its Evri rate card for 2026, for sellers who buy Evri labels through Amazon, lists “Peak Season (November & December)” at £0.10 a parcel. The same card lists £2.95 for the Scottish islands and the Channel Islands, and £1.20 for Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, Isle of Wight and Scilly Isles. If you send through Evri on your own account, your rates are set in your contract, so ask Evri for the peak figure directly.

Yodel is now InPost, and only fuel is published

Yodel’s own web addresses now redirect to InPost. InPost’s fuel surcharge page sets the October 2026 domestic rate from the government’s weekly road fuel price: 20.0 per cent for contracts dated before 1 August 2012, 11.0 per cent for contracts dated from 1 August 2012, and 20.0 per cent for contracts starting after 14 April 2014. Which one applies depends on the date of your contract, so check it. We found no published InPost or Yodel peak surcharge for 2026.

DHL and FedEx

DHL Express publishes its demand surcharge in full: from 1 November to 31 December 2026, a flat 10p a kilo on all UK Time Definite Domestic services, inside a wider demand period that runs from 1 October 2026 to 5 February 2027 for international lanes. Its fuel surcharge is set weekly: 40.00 per cent on domestic Time Definite services for 26 October to 1 November 2026. DHL eCommerce UK, the parcel service, lists its domestic fuel rate as 21.75 per cent from 1 October 2026 and publishes no peak charge.

FedEx has added a demand surcharge for domestic services in the UK, France, Germany and Italy, effective 1 November to 31 December 2026, according to its European demand surcharge notice. It does not publish the amount: account holders are pointed to a customer letter sent on 1 October 2026. Its UK fuel surcharge for express services is 22.25 per cent from 2 November to 6 December 2026.

Fuel is still the bigger number

The peak charge is the one that gets written about, because it is new each autumn. On most parcels it is the smaller cost. This year’s fuel surcharges run from 11 per cent on older InPost contracts to 35 per cent on UPS Standard, and they apply every month, not only at Christmas. A 30p peak charge on a DPD parcel sits beside 75p of fuel on a £4.00 delivery charge. Royal Mail shows the same pattern: on a £6.05 Royal Mail 24 parcel the peak surcharge is 22p and the fuel surcharge is 97p.

That is why comparing carriers on the peak charge alone gives the wrong answer. Compare the full price of the same parcel, with fuel and peak included, at the weights and sizes you actually send.

Do consumers and drop-off senders pay a peak surcharge?

On the pages we read, no carrier charges a separate peak surcharge to someone buying a single label at retail prices. Royal Mail and Parcelforce say outright that their peak surcharge does not apply to non-contract business or consumer services. DPD, Evri and InPost do not mention one for their shop and online sending prices. These are business account charges. If you buy postage parcel by parcel online, the peak cost, if any, is already in the price you see.

What to do before 2 November

  • Get your peak dates and amounts in writing from every carrier you have an account with, especially DPD, Evri and FedEx, which do not publish them in full.
  • Check which fuel tier you are on. InPost’s rate depends on the date of your contract, and UPS, DHL and FedEx change theirs weekly or monthly.
  • Re-run your postage cost per order with fuel and peak included, for the services you use most. Our Q4 cost calendar lists every date that changes the number.
  • Look at your free delivery threshold. A surcharge on every parcel from November to January eats the margin on the cheapest orders first.
  • Set your last order dates from each carrier’s Christmas posting dates; Royal Mail’s are in our Christmas dates guide. Most other carriers had not published theirs on 23 October.

Where we sit on this

We buy postage on account rates, so we pay these surcharges too. What we do differently is publish our own peak charge rather than leave it to the invoice: 20p per order in November and December, on the rate card and on every quote. If you would rather not track eight carriers’ surcharge pages yourself, a fulfilment partner that buys on account rates and quotes peak up front is one way to take it off your desk.

Courier surcharges 2026, answered

What is the DPD peak surcharge in 2026?

DPD’s surcharges page, dated October 2026, lists a Peak Charge of 30p, 75p on DPD Classic and Republic of Ireland parcels, £1.50 on DPD Direct, Air Classic and Air Express, and 20p on DPD Lite. Does Evri charge a peak surcharge in 2026?

Evri does not publish a 2026 peak surcharge on its own website; account customers’ surcharges are set in their contracts. Amazon’s Evri rate card for 2026, for sellers buying Evri labels through Amazon, lists a Peak Season charge of £0.10 a parcel in November and December.

What is the UPS Surge Emergency Fee?

It is UPS’s 2026 peak charge. From 20 September 2026 to 6 February 2027, UK domestic Standard, Express, Express Saver and Express Plus shipments to a residential address carry €0.55 a package, shown as £0.48. UPS applies its weekly fuel surcharge on top of the fee, and the fuel surcharge on Standard was 35.00 per cent for the week from 26 October 2026.

Does Yodel have a peak or fuel surcharge in 2026?

Yodel’s web addresses now redirect to InPost, and InPost publishes only a fuel surcharge. For October 2026 it is 20.0 per cent for contracts dated before 1 August 2012, 11.0 per cent for contracts dated from 1 August 2012, and 20.0 per cent for contracts starting after 14 April 2014. We found no published 2026 peak surcharge.

Do I pay a courier peak surcharge if I buy labels at retail prices?

Not as a separate charge, on the pages we read. Royal Mail and Parcelforce state that their peak surcharge does not apply to non-contract business or consumer services, and DPD, Evri and InPost do not list one for shop or online sending prices. Peak surcharges are business account charges.

Sources: every figure is from the carrier’s own pages, linked above, read on 23 October 2026, except the Evri peak figure, which is from Amazon’s Evri rate card for 2026. Royal Mail and Parcelforce rates are from Royal Mail’s surcharges page, set out in full in our Royal Mail surcharges article. Carriers change fuel surcharges weekly or monthly and can add or change peak charges at short notice, so check the carrier’s own page before you rely on a number, including any number here.
