Short answer: a UK business seller on eBay pays a final value fee of 6.9% to 14.9% of the total sale depending on category, plus 30p an order (40p over £10) and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee. On Amazon most categories pay a 15% referral fee, with a 2% digital services fee on top, and FBA adds £1.83 to £3.58 a unit for most envelopes and parcels up to 11.9kg outside peak. Every fee is charged plus 20% VAT. What decides your profit after that is how the order gets packed and posted, which is what the calculator compares.

Built from the marketplaces’ own rate cards. Every eBay figure comes from eBay’s business selling fees page (last updated 30 September 2026), and every Amazon figure from Amazon’s UK fee schedule and the FBA rate card in force from 1 July 2026, peak table included. Sources are linked at the end.
What eBay charges a business seller in 2026
eBay charges a final value fee when an item sells. It is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which eBay defines as the item price, the postage and any applicable taxes, so free postage and charged postage cost you the same percentage. The rate depends on the category and runs from 6.9% to 14.9%, with lower rates on the part of an expensive item above a threshold in some categories. On top of it come a per-order fee of 30p on an order of £10 or less and 40p above £10 (it went up from 30p on 12 February 2026), and a regulatory operating fee of 0.35% of the total sale.
| eBay category, business sellers | Final value fee |
|---|---|
| Health & Beauty, Toys & Games, Baby, Sporting Goods, Garden & Patio | 10.9% |
| Clothes, Shoes & Accessories | 11.9% |
| Home, Furniture & DIY | 11.9% up to £500, then 7.9% |
| Pet Supplies, Crafts, Everything Else | 12.9% |
| Business, Office & Industrial | 12.5% |
| Books, Computers, Mobile Phones, Sound & Vision, Video Games | 9.9% |
| Vehicle Parts & Accessories | 9.5% up to £750, then 3% |
| Jewellery & Watches | 14.9% up to £1,000, then 4% |
All eBay fees are quoted exclusive of VAT, and eBay adds UK VAT at 20% to the fees it bills business sellers. A VAT-registered seller reclaims it; anyone else pays it. Sellers below standard pay 6 percentage points more on the final value fee (7 after four months in a row), and Top Rated Sellers with Premium Service listings get 10% off the percentage part. A shop subscription (£27, £77 or £437 a month) changes listing fees, not the final value fee. Private sellers in the UK pay no final value fee or regulatory operating fee at all; the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee instead. This calculator is for business sellers.
What Amazon charges in 2026
Amazon takes a referral fee on every sale, a percentage of the total price the buyer pays including any delivery charge, with a minimum of 25p in most categories. Some categories pay a lower rate below a price point: Beauty, Health and Personal Care pays 8% on items up to £10 and 15% above, and Clothing pays 5% up to £15, 10% up to £20 and 15% above. Books, music, video, DVDs, software and video games add a closing fee of 50p (£1 for a book at £5 or more). A digital services fee of 2% is charged on the referral, closing and FBA fees, and the Professional plan costs £25 a month. All of it is quoted ex VAT, and VAT is added on top.
| FBA size tier, UK | Weight | 15 Jan to 14 Oct | 15 Oct to 14 Jan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light envelope, 33 x 23 x 2.5cm | up to 100g | £1.83 to £2.08 | no change |
| Standard envelope | up to 460g | £2.10 to £2.16 | no change |
| Large envelope, 4cm thick | up to 960g | £2.72 | £2.79 |
| Extra-large envelope, 6cm thick | up to 960g | £2.94 | £3.01 |
| Small parcel, 35 x 25 x 12cm | up to 3.9kg | £2.91 to £3.27 | £3.02 to £3.39 |
| Standard parcel, 45 x 34 x 26cm | up to 11.9kg | £2.94 to £3.58 | £3.05 to £3.71 |
Parcels are charged on the greater of the actual weight and the dimensional weight (length x width x height in cm, divided by 5,000), so a light but bulky product can land in a heavier band. Clothing, footwear, bags, grocery and a few other categories use their own parcel table, charged by unit weight. Since 17 April 2026 a 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to FBA fees, and items priced up to £20 (£10 in some categories) can qualify for Low-Price FBA at £1.46 to £2.70. Storage is £0.76 a cubic foot a month from January to September and £1.51 from October to December for most standard-size items. If your stock is already at Amazon, our guide to FBA storage fees in the UK covers the surcharges that start once it sits too long.
Packing yourself, a small 3PL or a large 3PL: the difference
The marketplace fee is the same whoever packs the order. The cost of getting it to the customer is not, and this is where most of the difference in profit comes from. Here is the calculator’s own answer for a typical small seller: a £19.99 Health & Beauty item in a 20 x 15 x 5cm pack weighing 250g, free postage, £5 product cost, 300 orders a month, sold outside peak.
| Profit per eBay sale | Not VAT registered | VAT registered |
|---|---|---|
| Pack it yourself | £6.10 | £3.30 |
| Angler Fulfilment | £5.33 | £3.57 |
| Large UK 3PL | £4.24 | £2.70 |
| Amazon MCF | £7.15 | £5.12 |
On Amazon the same item makes £7.52 a sale through FBA if you are not VAT registered, against £4.74 shipped by us and £3.64 through a large 3PL. That is the honest case for FBA: on a small, light product sold only on Amazon, it usually wins.
Amazon MCF comes out on top for this item because Amazon’s fee includes the postage and a 250g pack this size sits in its cheapest band. Make the same product a 900g parcel and MCF drops behind packing it yourself and behind us for an eBay order, because its price climbs with weight much faster than Royal Mail’s. After that, two things move the answer most. VAT is the first: a seller who is not VAT registered pays 20% on top of every 3PL and account postage invoice and cannot get it back, while Click & Drop postage carries no VAT at all. Once you are registered that difference disappears. Your own time is the second. Five minutes an order is a careful packer with labels already printed; with a trip to the Post Office it is more, and at 300 orders a month five minutes is 25 hours. Change both in the settings above and watch which column wins.
What large UK 3PLs publish
Most large fulfilment companies in the UK do not publish a per-order price, so the “large UK 3PL” column uses the only one we found that does: Gonini, formerly Bezos.ai, which shows an indicative 60p to 90p for a small single-item order plus a platform fee from £499 a month. What the others publish is mostly a minimum.
| Provider | What its own website publishes, checked 17 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Huboo | “From just £1,500 per month”. Per-order prices on a quote. |
| Fulfillable | A minimum monthly invoice of £1,000, and not recommended below 300 orders a month. Pick and pack on a quote. |
| Gonini (formerly Bezos.ai) | Platform fee from £499 a month plus usage, 100 orders a month minimum, indicative 60p to 90p for a small single-item order. |
| Bigblue | Subscription from £49 a month plus per-order packs; the fulfilment fee itself is quoted on your volumes. |
| ShipBob UK, Byrd, Zendbox | Quote only. Byrd’s smallest published segment is 500 to 1,000 shipments a month. |
| Angler Fulfilment | £1.10 for the first item (95p from 1,000 orders, 85p from 3,000), 15p packaging handling, no minimum and no monthly fee. Full rate card. |
A platform fee or minimum invoice is a fixed cost, so it weighs hardest on a small seller: £499 spread over 300 orders is £1.66 an order before anything is picked, and over 3,000 orders it is 17p. That is why large 3PLs are built for sellers doing thousands of orders and why the gap closes as you grow. Links to other companies are for reference, not endorsements; if your company is listed and a figure has changed, email info@anglerfulfilment.co.uk and we will correct it within one working day. The wider comparison is in UK 3PLs with no minimum order volume and what fulfilment costs per order.
FBA or a 3PL for your Amazon orders?
For small, light products sold only on Amazon, FBA is hard to beat on cost: the fulfilment fee includes the postage, and the calculator will usually show it ahead. It stops being the obvious answer in four situations. When you sell the same stock on eBay, TikTok Shop or your own site, because Multi-Channel Fulfilment from FBA stock costs £3.40 to £13.37 a unit and arrives in Amazon’s logistics. When stock sits for months and the October to December storage rate and aged-stock surcharges arrive. When your packaging, inserts or bundles matter to the customer. And when Amazon limits how much stock you can send in. Plenty of sellers run both: FBA for the fast Amazon lines, one UK warehouse for everything else, with FBA prep done on the way in. Keeping one stock count across all of it is covered in multi-channel stock and overselling.
How the calculator works it out
eBay
Final value fee on the item price plus the postage you charge, using the category’s tiers per item; the per-order fee at 30p or 40p; the 0.35% regulatory operating fee; plus 20% VAT unless you are VAT registered. Business sellers registered in the UK, selling to UK buyers, at standard seller performance.
Amazon
Referral fee on the item price plus any delivery you charge (none for FBA), with the 25p minimum where it applies; the closing fee for media; the 2% digital services fee; and the plan fee shared across your orders. With FBA, the fulfilment fee from your dimensions and weight, peak or not by the date you choose (Amazon says the peak fee excludes apparel, so clothing stays on the normal rate), with its 1.5% surcharge and 2% digital services fee, is shown under fulfilment and postage, because it pays for the packing and the delivery.
Pack it yourself
Your packaging, your time and your postage. Unless you enter your own price, postage is Royal Mail’s 2nd Class online price for the size you enter: £1.55 to £2.70 for a large letter (up to 2.5cm thick and 750g), £4.40 for a small parcel, £7.00 to £13.70 for a medium parcel. These prices carry no VAT.
Angler Fulfilment
Our published rate card, pick bin storage for the months you choose, packaging at cost, and Royal Mail’s published account price for the size (Royal Mail 48: £1.60 to £1.80 a large letter, £3.90 or £4.30 a parcel up to 2kg), plus its peak surcharge from 2 November to 10 January. Your quote shows our negotiated carrier rates, which are often lower, and you can enter them in the settings.
Large UK 3PL
Gonini’s published figures, the middle of its 60p to 90p range plus its £499 platform fee shared across your orders. Storage is not included because it is not published per unit, which flatters this column slightly.
Amazon MCFeBay orders sent from FBA stock
Amazon’s Multi-Channel Fulfilment rate card as of 29 May 2026, standard speed, one unit, plus the 1.5% surcharge and FBA storage.
Fees and profit, answered
How much does eBay charge to sell in the UK in 2026?
A UK business seller pays a final value fee of 6.9% to 14.9% of the total sale, depending on category, plus 30p an order (40p on orders over £10) and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee, all plus 20% VAT. Most categories sit between 9.9% and 12.9%. Private sellers in the UK pay no final value fee.
How much are Amazon seller fees in the UK?
Most categories pay a 15% referral fee with a 25p minimum, some pay less below a price point, and media adds a 50p or £1 closing fee. A 2% digital services fee is charged on those fees, the Professional plan is £25 a month, and everything is plus VAT. FBA adds a fulfilment fee from £1.83 for a light envelope to £3.58 for a standard parcel up to 11.9kg, more during the 15 October to 14 January peak, plus a 1.5% surcharge.
Do eBay and Amazon fees include VAT?
No. Both publish their fees exclusive of VAT and add UK VAT at 20% for UK sellers. If you are VAT registered you reclaim it as input tax. If you are not, it is part of what selling costs you, which is why the calculator asks.
Is FBA cheaper than using a 3PL?
For small, light items sold only on Amazon, usually yes, because the FBA fee includes postage. For eBay and other channels it is usually not: Multi-Channel Fulfilment costs £3.40 to £13.37 a unit. Storage over Christmas, aged stock, branded packaging and inventory limits also change the answer. Put your own product in the calculator to see both side by side.
Why is a large 3PL dearer for a small seller?
Because of fixed monthly charges. Huboo starts from £1,500 a month, Fulfillable has a £1,000 minimum invoice and Gonini charges a platform fee from £499 a month. Spread over a few hundred orders, those add more per order than the picking itself. Over several thousand orders a month the gap closes.
When do Amazon’s peak fees apply?
From 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027, FBA fees for large envelopes and parcels go up by 7p to 15p a unit, with the 1.5% surcharge on top. Light and standard envelopes, oversize items, Low-Price FBA and apparel are not affected. Fees go back to the July 2026 rates on 15 January 2027.
